In
ancient
Eastern medicine it was understood that, like the pulse, the skin tells the
story of the human condition. For this reason, taking time to understand

very important. The Egyptians used aromatic gums and spices in the process of embalming. The ancient Greek physician, Hippocrates advised that scented herbs should be burned over his patients. In the early 20th century a French chemist, René-Maurice Gattefossé, introduced the term 'aromatherapy' for the first time. He was fascinated with the therapeutic possibilities of aromatic oils after accidentally plunged his burning hand into a bowl of lavender oil. The oil healed the severe burn on his hand quite rapidly and helped prevent scarring. Essential oils were used as treatments for war wounds in the Indo China war (1948-1959). The history of aromatherapy is a very interesting example how people circling around in their quest for new things and come back again to the old traditions used by their ancestors. Massage with essential oils was known long time ago as well as spa/bath concept used by ancient Romans and Greeks. The essential oils, which are extracted from the bark, roots, stalks, leaves, flowers and resins of trees and plants are always part of the natural skin care products
